»Wenn wir aufhören, die Landschaft als Objekt einer Industrie zu betrachten, entdecken wir plötzlich (...) eine Menge unbestimmter Räume, ohne Funktion, die schwer zu benennen sind.«
Gilles Clément nennt diese unbestimmten Orte »Dritte Landschaft«. Es sind Räume am Waldrand, entlang von Straßen und Flüssen, vergessene Ecken, nutzlose, leergeräumte, namenlose Räume, Rückstände oder Leerstellen.
Diese Funktions- und Namenlosigkeit beinhaltet den Anspruch, etwas zu sein.

Rem Koolhaas bezeichnet diese Räume als »Junkspace«. Sie sind die Reste, die die Menschheit auf dem Planeten hinterlässt, das, was übrigbleibt.

Wir wollen gemeinsam über diese Räume nachdenken, die weder voll noch leer, weder funktionslos noch nutzlos sind. Sie stellen Möglichkeiten dar, aber noch keine konkreten Zukunftsvisionen.
Anhand verschiedener Texte aus Architekturtheorie, Landschaftsplanung und Städtebau nähern wir uns diesen Themen an.

Wir werden mit der Pädagogischen Fakultät Maribor (PEF) zusammenarbeiten. Gemeinsam werden wir das seit 10 Jahren verlassene Sanatorium Doktor Černič in Maribor besuchen, das heute im Besitz der Universität Maribor ist.

»If we stop looking at the landscape as the object of an industry, we suddenly discover (…) a quantity of undecided spaces, devoid of function, that are difficult to name.«
Gilles Clément calls these indeterminate places »Third Landscape«. They are spaces at the edge of forests, along roads and rivers, forgotten corners, useless, empty, nameless spaces, residues or empty spaces.
This lack of function and name contains the intention, the inspiration to be something.

Rem Koolhaas refers to these spaces as »Junkspace«. They are the remnants that humanity leaves behind on the planet, what remains.

We want to think together about these spaces, which are neither full nor empty, neither functionless nor useless. They represent possibilities, but not concrete visions of the future.
We will approach these topics through various texts from architectural theory, landscape planning and urban design.

We will be collaborating with the Faculty of Education Maribor (PEF). Together we will visit the Doctor Černič Sanatorium in Maribor, abandoned for 10 years and now owned by the University of Maribor.
